PRN Day Registered Nurse

Our RN position is responsible for delivering a continuity of optimal healthcare via: nursing assessments, performance of assigned nursing duties, crisis intervention, and assistance with rehabilitation as an integral member of the total treatment team to all guests/patients. This position requires the individual to work independently with minimal supervision. Will perform a comprehensive assessment of guest’s health care needs based on data collected through history, observation, basic physical and psychological examination, and analysis of diagnostic data. Will develop individualized and comprehensive nursing/medical treatment plan according to guest’s level of need and functional ability. Will perform direct guest care by administering medications, observing and recording patient responses and medication side effects, performing various administrative, clerical and documentation activities to support guest care.
The schedule is as PRN, Monday-Friday, 6:45am – 7:45pm
Minimum Licensure/Certification:
• Valid North Carolina Registered Nursing License
• BLS and First Aid Certification.
• Maintains requirements for continuing education with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands/Strength:
• Be able to lift objects at least 25 lbs.
• Be able to sit/stand for prolonged periods.
• Be able to perform tasks, which require hand-eye coordination.
• Be able to communicate using the English language.
Provides optimal healthcare using nursing skills, assessment skills and knowledge of addictions to facilitate a safe recovery.
1. Comprehensive Assessment: Performs comprehensive assessment of guest’s health care needs based on data collected through history, observation, basic physical and/or psychological examination, analysis of diagnostic data, and screens individual for pain. Interviews potential and current guests using acceptable techniques appropriate to the guest’s age and level of functioning in order to obtain an accurate usage, medical and psychiatric history, or description of guest problem. It includes demonstrating the ability to perform routine tests and vital signs, order appropriate laboratory studies, and accurately document the results in the guests’ electronic medical record within established timeframes.
2. Treatment Plan: Obtains data for the development of individualized nursing/medical treatment plan according to guest’s needs. Documents the findings from all collected data and collaborates with guest, family, medical and treatment teams to develop a comprehensive plan. Collects data to allow for plan modification. Schedules outside appointments and follow up as ordered. Reviews provider orders for instruction.
3. Administering Medications: Prepares and administers the correct medication(s) in the proper method, time and dosage to the correct guest as ordered and explains medication (s) and indications to guests as needed Immediately reports any significant reactions to the provider and responds to guests in acute distress according to established guidelines.
4. Documentation: Records guest care, outcomes, and other information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner Transcribes and/or notes provider orders as indicated. Ensures and maintains guest confidentiality. Assists other departmental staff in regularly inventorying medical supplies and reorders/restocks as needed.
5. Health Education: Provides health education instruction to guests on various health issues by providing clear and accurate information to guests about diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge plans, and /or preventive care according to individual guest needs. Monitors guest compliance with instructions and /or medication self-administration and takes appropriate actions as needed.
6. Communication: Communicates with other medical and departmental personnel to coordinate efforts, resolve operational problems, and improve quality of guest care. Works cooperatively with staff both intradepartmentally and interdepartmentally. Identifies and evaluates deficiencies in guest care and seeks to resolve deficiencies with the help of the total treatment team. Reports any repairs needed or problems with the physical condition of the unit in a timely manner to the appropriate staff members.
7. Infection Control: Adheres to universal precautions in all situations to prevent the spread of infection.
8. Guest Care: Maintains a professional relationship with guests at all times. Provides an environment that demonstrates caring, compassion and respect for all guests without discrimination, while maintaining guest privacy and confidentiality. Responds to guests in a manner that conveys a willingness to assist.
9. Crisis Management: Assists guests who are experiencing emotional problems using crisis management skills.
10. Appropriate Care: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, disability, and cultural background of the guest being served. Demonstrates competence in substance abuse withdrawal symptoms, including delirium tremens and symptoms of secondary complications of substance abuse.
11. Safety Measures: Demonstrates and/or abides by safety measures which prevent employee/guest accidents by using good personal body mechanics. Reports all accidents/incidents and/or hazardous conditions/equipment as policy and procedure dictate. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency policies and procedures. Follows guidelines and manufacturer instructions when using equipment, supplies and chemicals.
12. Proficiencies: Maintains proficiencies as documented on specific departmental competency
Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills, knowledge of poly-substance abuse to include signs, symptoms and treatment of withdrawal phase, knowledge of symptoms of psychiatric conditions that complicate treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. 12 Step knowledge is a plus.
